O Prémio Nobel da Física de 2008 foi para Yoichiro Nambu, Makoto Kobayashi e Toshihide Maskawa, pela Descoberta doMecanismo das Quebras Expontâneas das Simetrias na Física Subatómica (Nambu) e pelaDescoberta da origem das quebras de simetria que prevê a existência de, pelo menos, três famílias de quarks na natureza (Kobayashi e Maskawa).
